Thats Odd

I'm feeling better a little bit. The mysterious fever is gone and I'm just achey. I went to the grocery store this afternoon and I saw the most pitiful thing. There was this older woman there and she had on her slip over her shirt. It was quite odd. There's probably no one at her house to tell her she had done that because she was just walking around pushing her cart like there was nothing wrong.
I've seen this happen before. It's sad that no one tells these women. I thought about going up to her and saying something about it, but I didn't want to upset her.
I just hope when I reach that age, I won't do something like that. Hopefully I'll be somewhere where I have close supervision. Or at least with other people.
I hope this woman wasn't driving herself home. Just think if she was that absent minded at home, how would she be driving.

Monday

Hey. I hope everyone had a good Monday. Boy, when I got home today I felt awful. Getting stuffy again and chills. I took my temp. and yes I have a fever.
My cat is doing better, thank god. The canned food worked. It's funny when I mix it with her kibble she eats around the hard food and only eats the canned food. At least the canned food is a lot cheaper than her kibble. She's back to playing and getting into things. Her new thing is hiding in the bathtub and peaking through the shower curtain.
My neighbor was complaining the other day that one of her Alabama flags fell off her car window. She only has four posted on her car. Yes, their the ones who freak all the kids out around here on game day decorating the patio with every stuffed animal breed you could imagine. They put Alabama t-shirts on these animals that are placed on chairs all around their patio.
Oh and for the super bowl, they will be leaving NY Giants toys all around. Woohoo.... so they tell me.

An Idea

Well, I talked to my sister about the Butter problem and she assured me that since she is drinking water and is eating some treats, then she should be fine. However, she did recommend me getting her some canned food. I went this morning to do that and she did eat a little bit of it plus some treats.
So, I feel much better about it. Not as nervous.
Not much more is going on with me today. But I do have to say, it feels a whole lot better outside with that cool brisk air, than how it's been all week. Plus since it's cooler the air is much more stable so that we won't have any storms. We had a bad storm on Monday that did some damage across town and some rain on Thursday.
On Monday there were 11 tornados that touched down across Jefferson and Clay counties. The clean up has been slow. Hopefully we won't be getting anymore bad storms for awhile.

Butter Continued

Ok, Ok, So I went yesterday to buy Butter some different food. I thought instead of jumping to conclusions that something is wrong, I'll just buy her some different food. So I did. She ate it yesterday, but then this morning she didn't. But she did eat her treats. And she is drinking water. She's doing two things that Molly didn't do when she was sick.
I tried putting her into the crate again this morning which was a bad idea because she bit me. I even tried to put her into a pillow case which is recommended, but to no avail.
So, what do I do? I've ruled out a hair ball. She has spit up a mucus substance so that leads me to believe she may have a cold. But still I'm faced with not being able to crate her.
Since this is the third day that she has turned down kibble, I am worried. Remember this is how Molly got sick, she stopped eating all together.
I guess I'll continue to watch her. Not much else I can do.

Butter

Butter is my cat. For the past two days, she has not eaten her kibble. She also has seemed to be more attached to me as far as cuddling than she normally is. And she spit up this flem substance the other day. So naturally I'm worried. See, my beloved Molly the cat died from not eating. Actually I had to put her down because she had not eaten in 4 weeks and she started having these seizures. None of the three vets I took her to could come up with an explanation.
Butter on the other hand is still interested in her treats, water and toys. So I don't know if she simply is not interested in the type of food I give her anymore. Thats the only thing I can think of since she is not acting like she doesn't feel good.
Maybe she caught my cold? I don't know. I'm going to give it a few more days to see if she'll eat her kibble. I might even go buy her some different food before I make the decision to take her to a vet.
I'm just worried.

Hello

Well it's been a few days since I blogged. Even though my schedule has been full, sometimes I just don't have much to say. I will share something that happened in the post office yesterday. This woman was calling her daughter over to her and he daughters name was honerhea. You know like gonerhea. I'm sure I'm not spelling that right. Anyway, I just thought that was so bad. Just think, when this little girl grows up, she will be teased so bad.
We've had a lot of new volunteers sign up that our schedules are changing a bit. Thats fine because I'm starting to volunteer at another organization in addition to where I volunteer now.
I'm thinking about possibly finding a PT job to make ends meet. I won't be able to make but about a 1/4 than what  I'm bringing in now, but I think it can help.
I just need about 300 more dollars each month.
Believe me I've learned to live on a budget. It's not so bad, cause I don't need much. I have enough to pay my bills, just need a little more grocery and gas money.

Sunday Morning

I took the best walk this morning. When I got back I drank hot coffee out on my patio. You can tell that we are going to get some bad weather later tonight because there's an overcast and it seems that everything is still. We are suppose to get storms later on today.
The last storm that came through knocked my chime into the big window in my living room. So, I have stored that away. Hopefully my neighbors will take down their chime also.
I've got to do my chores today, which I dread. You know the weekly washing of clothes, towels and sheets. I've got to dust, vacuum and clean up the bathroom and kitchen. If I were rich, I would have a maid to do all of that stuff. Isn't it funny what you wish for if you were rich. These folks that have maids don't know how good they've got it.
I'd also have a cook and a driver. Not having any responsibilities. I do often wonder what rich people do all day. You know the ones who don't have the daily grind and can shop all day, go to the spa or just watch movies all day without a care in the world. Everyone thinks about that at some point.
But I am thankful for what I have. Because there are those that are living on the streets without two nickels to rub together. Here comes my cat, dragging here string to me to play. Boy she has the life. Sleeps all day, plays, eats all day and cuddles with her momma.
Well I better get going. Have a good day everyone!

A Walk

When I got home today, I went for my walk. I usually walk each day for about an hour. I saw this little girl selling hot chocolate in the neighborhood. I've seen her before outside playing. Since I didn't have any money on me I wasn't going to stop. But one of my neighbors was buying some and invited me over. He bought me a cup and we toasted the beautiful day.
I didn't even think about the hot chocolate being full of sugar. Cause when I took my blood sugar when I got back it was high. Well, I've learned my lesson, no hot chocolate for me. Or at least none but the sugar free kind.
It's been my kind of day. Sunning with a cool breeze in the air.

Monday

One of our volunteers died last week of a stroke. She was only 53/yrs. old. Thats one of the things that diabetics have to be careful of is a stroke. It is said, that diabetics are four times more likely to suffer from a stroke and heart attack. A few others are high blood pressure, high cholesteral and circulation problems. Thankfully I haven't had problems with my blood pressure, well not yet that is.
Diabetics toes and feet can turn blue, so once a year I get my feet examined. You have to make sure you're wearing proper shoes and socks.
I had cholesteral problems before being diagnosed, so I'm used to that.
One bad thing is that when diabetics catch a bug, it takes them usually twice as long to get over it.
So, my aim is to try to stay as healthy as I can.
I mange my blood sugars, eat well, exercise and try to get enough sleep. The sleeping is a mess sometimes, but I'm more likely to sleep now than I was before.
All in all, there's lots to learn about diabetes.

Friday

My Dad has his surgery this morning. He had a slipped disc in his neck that was fixed. I know he's out of surgery now and in recovery. They may let him go this afternoon, but there's still a chance that they may keep him overnight. Whichever, I just want him not to be in pain anymore.
I was telling a friend about this the other day and she said that it was hard for her to see her parents in pain. So, I think this is close to having a child. You never want to have anyone in discomfort.
Not much more to report today except that I slept pretty good last night. I woke up yesterday and didn't have a sore throat anymore. Still congested, but I do feel better. The bad thing about being a diabetic is when you catch something, you usually will have it for a longer time. It's harder to get well quickly. Thats just one of the perks I guess.
I just walked outside this morning and it is cold..... I think it went down to 24 degrees this morning. My bagonia has well since died from the last cold spell.
Well I think I'll get out of my jammies and start my day.

All is Quiet

Ok, now it's a quarter til 3am. I am so tired. These past few nights that I have woken up this early has gotten to me. I'm all congested and I've been sneezing all night long. You're probably tired of hearing about my ailments, so I'll stop with this sorry stuff.
When you wake up this early, it makes you feel that you're the only one around. I can hear the rain outside and the gentle rumble of thunder. I wonder how many people are usually up at this hour. I guess folks that work the third shift would be up or people like me who have weird sleeping hours. Of course my cat has been up for hours. She usually leaves me alone unless she wants to sleep on my pillow. When that happens, I'll wake up with my head at a  angle. She must wake me up at some point for me to move my head.
Oh, I can hear my neighbors outside. They usually stay up til wee in the morning. I couldn't do that night after night, sleeping during the day.
I don't know about you but in order for me to sleep it has to be dark in my bedroom. So when I wake up this early, I'll sometimes fall back to sleep or I stay awake until the next evening. Recently I've been staying awake. I've gotten an average of 3hrs. of sleep a night since about last Thursday. So you can just imagine how worn down I am.
Anyway, have a good Wednesday everyone!

Tuesday

Well I didn't go in today. I actually just woke up. I wanted to talk about the game last night. The BCS game between Alabama and LSU. You know I thought LSU would cream Alabama. But the way Alabama played, they were just fierce. They played like the NFL. They dominated LSU throughout the game. And Alabama did deserve to win.
I'm usually not a big football fan and I rarely watch any game, but last night was different. Maybe I need to start watching football. I'm embarrassed to say that I still don't understand what a lot of the calls are about. No one ever asks me about sports. I guess thats the reason. But if they asked me about tennis or equestrian sports, I'd know what to say. Or even swimming. I was on the high school swimming team for just one season.
Boy I just realized that I was in much better shape when I was younger than I am now.
Hopefully that will change.
At least if the conversation comes up about the game last night, I can join on in.
Thats if they want to hear my idiotic opinion. I just make myself laugh sometimes.

Yuk!!!

It's 2 am and I'm coughing up a lung. I take more medicine then fall back to sleep for about 4hrs. until my alarm clock goes off. I decided to go on in to volunteer this morning, but I left after 3hrs. This sneezing and coughing is for the birds. But I do know something is going around, because so many people are out sick. Just in my family, my brother and Dad are both sick.
But today was an uneventful day. Same old same old.
When I get done blogging I'll curl up in a warm blanket and drink some hot herbal tea. My new kick is drinking green tea. I read that green tea is so good for you. It has less caffeine in it. Plus, it just makes you feel better. Actually anything warm does.
It's TCM all afternoon today. There's just nothing better than a old movie. Well to me.
I hope that we don't get severe weather their broadcasting for tomorrow. It's suppose to rain til Thursday.
Well thats about it for me today. Just checkin' in.

Friday

Boy, waking up sick isn't fun. For the past few days I have felt tired and stuffy. So, naturally this morning I have a cold and sore throat. This is my off day and I'm not planning to do much today. I've had a busy week and I long to settle down and watch a good movie.
Those of you who work will probably think that I'm a light weight. Well, I can see your point of view. I used to hold down a full time job. Now I just donate my time to organizations that need help.
At least I don't sit on my duff every day.
Talking about the weather. We've had some beautiful days this past week. But I still like the cold. Ooops, my cat just nudged me to pick her up. She's been wild this morning, running and jumping around. She has this little birdie that chirps. She carries it around with her. At night I have to take it away from her because if I didn't she would keep me up all night.
Well that's about all my news for the day. I hope everyone has a good weekend.

The Mundane

You know it's so easy to get stuck to a certain routine. I have been feeling lately that I'm spending too much time volunteering for one organization. So, I'm cutting my hours down and volunteering at an old place working with wildlife. Thats the beauty of volunteering. You don't have to donate your time to just one place.
Since I have been volunteering these past few years, it's given me something I can be proud of. It's not just getting me out of the house, but it's giving me an outlet. Besides I'm most happier if I am helping others whether that may be people or animals.
It also gives me a sense that I am still worth something even if I'm not working at a full time job. So, I think we each need to find something that allows us to sparkle. Volunteering does it for me.

New Years Day

How did you bring in the new year? Well, needless to say I didn't drink diet coke last night. I've had this bottle of wine in my frig since before I was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago. I decided [with some coaching] to bring in the new year. I mean really.
Alcohol seems to affect me quicker than the average person. After I had drunk two glasses of wine, I was saying "Happy Mothers day" instead of "Happy New Year." So you can just imagine. I decided to pour the rest of the wine down the sink before I was motivated to drink more.
So, today after my blood sugar shot through the roof I have been completely lazy. On SyFy they've been running the Twilight Zone series all day. That takes me back.
I did take a walk, a short one. I even put my jammies back on when I got home. With my nice warm fuzzy pink socks.
Well thats about it for me today. I hope ya'll have a good week!
